The Weight Lifting Foundation
The Weight Lifting Foundation is a charity established almost twenty-five years ago to assist the development of youth weightlifting in the UK and the Channel Islands. We are dedicated to helping young (under 23) lifters improve their performances and thus fulfil their potential both in training and in competition. We consider all applications on their merits. There are 3 main ways in which we provide support:
The Brian Hamill Award
Each year we make an award to an individual or group in the under 23 age group who we feel has made an outstanding contribution to their weightlifting club in a way that reflects the example and ethos of our late trustee, Brian Hamill. Read more about the Brian Hamill Award.
Revenue Funding
We recognise that the costs of competing, particularly in international events, can be hefty. We can help with these by contributing towards travel and accommodation expenses. Isabella Brown, Lucy McGonigle and Sebastian Lawton are among the lifters we have been able to assist in the past. We have also assisted young lifters via British Weightlifting with grants over a three year period. Application for Revenue Funding. Contact details are included if more information is required.
Capital Funding
If a club needs to upgrade its equipment and/or improve its facilities, then we may be able to assist with the costs and we have contributed over £41,000 in the last 6 years. Please note that we do not fund property enhancements including building works. Clubs which have been successful in their applications include Europa Weightlifting Club, Maidstone Weightlifting Club, Glasgow City Barbell, Zalva Weightlifting Club and Stars For The Future Weightlifting. Application for Capital Funding. Contact details are included if more information is required.
